 Trading levels --- 26^th / 30^th  May  2014

I am writing after two weeks. On 12^th may, in anticipation of exit poll outcome, market rallied big time and NIFTY scaled 7000 for the first time. On 16^th may, with the indications of NDA getting more than 300 seats, there was a crescendo and NIFTY scaled 7563.5. That got sold into immediately.

Whole of last week, we saw consolidation with NIFTY trading in a small range of 100 odd points. ON LAST FRIDAY, I WAS RATTLED / SCARED AS WELL AS SURPRISED WITH THE FEROCITY OF MOVE IN  PSU BANKING SPACE.

THESE MOVES IN PSU BANKING, OVER LAST TWO WEEKS, CAN BE COMPARED WITH THE HYPE THAT WAS GENERATED IN POWER SECTOR IN SECOND HALF OF DECEMBER 2007 / TILL 10^TH JANUARY 2008. And we all know what followed.

I will advise to take out 10 % money from equities for every 100 NIFTY point up-move. And if that means completely getting out of equities in next 2/3 months … be it that way.

We can safely invest cash taken out in good quality NCDS at 11/12 % as nobody can say with any conviction that this market will scale 10,000 NIFTY with in 2 yrs.

Fundamentals are not at all supporting this move and I don’t bet my hard earned money on HOPE.  A FUND MANAGER CAN DO IT, BECAUSE HE IS BETTING OUR MONEY …. NOT HIS OWN MONEY and  for him 300 basis point outperformance,  with respect to peers,  even in absolute 10 % point loss situation is CREDITABLE PERFORMANCE.

SO IT IS ALL RELATIVE AND WE MUST TAKE CARE OF OUR OWN MONEY.

As I always say, we have to play percentages to make money. Bold bravado does not help.  WHAT DO YOU SAY ? ? ?
