ANXIETY OVER BREXIT KEEPS MARKETS ON TENTERHOOK . . .
Trading levels –20th / 24th June 2016
It is now 15 trading sessions that the market is in a tight trading range of 200 NIFTY points. The break-out is bound to happen by Friday 24th when results about BREXIT referendum will be known.
Market is betting on NO EXIT. Hence …. If there is a verdict saying EXIT … we can go down by 250/300 points while the status quo will ensure about 100 / 125 point upside. This prediction is looking at today’s NIFTY level of 8170.
There is gap at 7941 / 7948 which is likely to get filled and may be a chance of filling the earlier gap at 7761 / 7809 in the following week.
RBI has again thrown a lifeline to banks by proposing to allow them to convert 50 % of outstanding loans in to equity if the corporates are willing to settle balance amounts in a time-bound manner. This has given new lease of life to some banks – private as well as PSU - which are reeling under huge NPA burden. Naturally, BANK NIFTY looks a little upbeat with this development.
Cabinet has also cleared merger of SBI associate banks with SBI. associate banks jumped 30/35 % but smaller PSU banks also added 5/7 % because of improved sentiment.
Technically speaking, it looks like the death cross on weekly charts is showing its effect and putting downward pressure on the market.
